Los Angeles Unified School District
Joint-Use Health Centers
Henrikson Owen is teamed with Randall Baylon architects to provide MEP engineering design services for Joint Use Health Centers located on District campuses. LAUSD selected multiple teams to provide A/E services for approximately 13 Health Centers with the average anticipated program cost for each of $1.2 to $2 Million.

The Joint Use Health Centers will provide a school based clinic that will provide health services to students from that school, neighboring schools and the surrounding community in which the Joint Use Health Center is located. In Addition to providing free or reduced health services the Joint Use Health Center will assist eligible participants with insurance enrollment and case management.

The Joint Use Health Centers projects will consist of site improvement and tenant improvement of existing bungalows or re-locatable structures. The design and construction will conform to Federal, State, and local building codes and standards, including DSA, OSHPD, the CCR, Americans with Disabilities Act, and LAUSD requirements.

UC Riverside Health Sciences Teaching Center
Henrikson Owen and Associates (HOA) is teamed with HMC to provide mechanical and electrical engineering services for the University of California , Riverside Health Sciences Teaching Center . The project consists of renovation and building systems upgrades to accommodate program needs for UCR’s Biomedical Sciences and School of Medicine programs.


Superior Court of California, Plan Review for the New San Bernardino Courthouse, San Bernardino, CA
Owen is providing Plan Review services for working design and construction documents for a new 356,390 square foot, 11-story trial court facility in San Bernardino.

Owen will review and comment on the mechanical, plumbing, electrical and structural portions of the design development and construction documents in order to ensure compliance with California Title 24 requirements. Additional reviews of accessibility plans and fire & Life safety plans may be conducted at the client’s request.

The overall construction budget is approximately $ 283.1 million.


New Fueling Station Facilities at Numaniyah and Tallil, Iraq
Owen is providing Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) and Structural Engineering Services for two fuel stations in Numaniyah and Tallil Iraq . The two fuel stations each consist of (7) 100,000 liter of gas tanks, (17) 100,000 liter diesel tanks, (2) 50,000 liter kerosene tanks, (2)10,000 liter oil tanks, and associated piping and fueling equipment. The Mechanical design work includes fueling equipment, piping and control system for the fuling stations. The Plumbing design work includes a storm drainage system. The Electrical design work includes Power, Lighting, Control System, Conduit and outlets for data and voice communication systems, Coordination with the utility for a new transformer. The Structural design work includes Concrete slab design, and Containment design. click here to view image


Embassy Suites Los Angeles Glendale Grand Opening Ceremony
Owen provided full-service engineering for the new 273,000 square foot, 14 story, 272 guestrooms, full -service high-rise hotel. Features include a 12-story atrium, meeting and conference space, lounge and restaurant facility, gift shop, deli, and back-of house functions and spaces. Supporting the hotel is a three-level, 350 space, subterranean parking structure. The grand opening ceremony was held on November 25th, 2008 and is located at 800 N. Central Ave in Glendale, CA.

UC Irvine Stem Cell Research Building
BFL Owen is the structural engineer of record for the new Stem Cell Research building at the University of California Irvine, CA.

This will be the 9th Design-Build project that BFL Owen has worked on at the campus. The $46 Million facility is planned to be a 105,000 square foot, four-story building to be completed June 2010.

Modeled after the existing Hewitt Hall (which BFL Owen was also EOR), Gross Hall will be located within the heart of UCI’s Biomedical Research Center in the Health Sciences Complex.

Commissioning Services for Five New Facilities Chulavista, CA
Henrikson Owen & Associates is providing LEED commissioning services for five (5) Sweetwater facilities. All five buildings will be LEED Gold certified.

UC Irvine Medical Center / Clinical Laboratory Replacement Building
Irvine, CA

BFL Owen is providing structural engineering services for the new Design-Build Clinical Laboratory replacement Building, situated along a central East – West axis from The City Center Drive on the east side of campus next to the 5 freeway. The CLRB is a five-story poured-in-place concrete building to house the Medical Center ’s Laboratory Facilities. Construction has commenced on this new $49.5 million clinical laboratory building, and will be completed in 2010.

LAX Midfield Improvements Projects
New Midfield Satellite Concourse Central Utilities Plant - Los Angeles , CA
Henrikson Owen and Associates (HOA) is teamed with Hatch Mott MacDonald as part of the Central Terminal Area (CTA) Central Utilities Plant (CUP) Replacement. The CTA CUP facility has no spare heating and cooling capacity, has reached the end of its useful life, is costly to operate and maintain, and in many cases replacement parts are no longer available. HOA’s role is to provide comprehensive engineering services for the phasing and commissioning of the new CTA CUP with the demolition of the existing CTA CUP so that cogenerated electrical power, cooling, and heating services to LAX continue to be provided seamlessly throughout construction.

HOA is also providing MEP services as part of the Central Terminal Area (CTA) East Utilidor Project. The East Utilidor project is the initial phase of many in which all the terminals and served ancillary buildings will be connected to centralized heating and cooling service from the CUP.

As part of this project, HOA is also working on the High Voltage Distribution at LAX. This is an extensive project to install new 34.5 kV distribution through the LAX site as part of the upgraded interconnection with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). HOA is developing the high voltage engineering concept that includes such distribution features as switchgear, primary substations, duct banks, cabling, manholes, outdoor switchyards, and telemetry for automatic control.

California Prison Health Care Receivership Program - General Code Compliance Review Services
Owen Group is providing general building code compliance review consulting services seven (7) new prison facilities on existing state prison sites. The California Prison Health Care Receivership Corporation (“CPR”) is planning construction of new clinical healthcare facilities at seven locations throughout California in accordance with its authority to provide adequate health care services to California state prison inmate patients. Review services will be coordinated with the planning, programming, design and construction of the facilities.

Owen is providing the personnel, equipment and material to perform and accomplish the review process during conceptualization, criteria design, detailed design and implementation documents, and throughout construction, to comply with federal, state and local codes and licensing regulatory requirements for facilities.

Riverside County Transportation Commission
Owen has recently announced the successful completion and opening of two Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) projects, the new North Main Corona, Metrolink Station Parking Structure, and the Perris Multi-Modal Facility. Owen primarily provided construction management services, in addition, supporting the RCTC's design team with OWEN civil and electrical-engineering services, and security design services to facilitate the turnaround and revisions. Owen also provided, inspection- and material testing-services.

More importantly, to ensure open lines of communication with neighboring residents affected by these construction projects, OWEN assisted RCTC in its extensive community outreach programs. The North Main Corona Parking Structure consisted of six levels of reinforced concrete and post-tension concrete slabs housing 1,065 parking spaces. With Stantec as the architect, and McCarthy Building Companies as the General Contractor, this project was completed within the $25 million budget, and improved the construction schedule with an on-time delivery for use by the current Metrolink ridership. The Perris Multi-Modal Facility consisted of a surface parking lot with landscaping improvements, shelter structures, a state-of-the-art security system, and a railway platform for the future Perris Valley Line (PVL) which Metrolink service is anticipated to commence in 2012. The Perris Multi-Modal Facility was completed in early January 2010, and is being operated as a bus transit station by the Riverside Transit Agency (RTA). The projected costs for this Facility are approximately $5 million.

BFL Owen won the Public Sector Merit award for over $15M from The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) for the new Bren Hall (Computer Sciences #3) at UC Irvine. Hensel Phelps was the General Contractor and Carrier Johnson was the Architect.


Los Angeles Police Department
Rampart Police Station, Maintenance Facility and Parking Structure,
Los Angeles, CA

Yang Engineering provided Mechanical, Plumbing and Fire Protection engineering services for the replacement of the existing old and undersized station at the existing site. The project received a USGBC LEED Gold Certificate for new construction.

The scope includes a 43,968 sq. ft. police station , a 6,768 sq ft vehicle maintenance facility (Motor Transport Division), a 226 space parking structure and a communication tower (120’ expandable to 180’). The maintenance facility includes island fuel and a carwash.

Ferey Rafatnia, PE
Electrical Department Manager -
Henrikson Owen + Yang
Mr. Rafatnia joins the Burbank office of Henrikson Owen + Yang as Electrical Department Manager. He is a Designer, Developer and Construction Administrator of Electrical Distribution Systems with over 25 years of experience. Mr. Rafatnia's experience includes over 100 educational, commercial, and residential projects in the United States and more projects overseas that consist of lighting, power, fire alarm, safety and technology, security, public address and intercom, computer data networking, telephone and wireless systems.

 

Vlad Burce
Project Manager - Owen Design + Management

Mr. Burce joins Owen Design + Management as a Registered Civil Engineer with over 13 years of professional experience in planning, schedule management, cost management, design and program/construction management of major projects including private residential developments and master planned communities, wastewater treatment plants, sewer lift stations, foundation improvement projects, transportation projects, landfill facilities, and underground utilities. He has had direct contribution to the successful completion of private real estate developments and residential tracts and has hands-on design and expertise in construction and program management of major real estate developments.

 

James Aiken
Architect/Project Manager - Owen Design + Management

Mr. Aiken joins Owen Design + Management as Architect / Project Manager with over 30 years of architectural experience. He has developed a broad portfolio including projects in the hospitality, academic, medical, mixed-use, public and commercial markets. Additionally, James has been a lecturer at Cal Poly SLO and OCC, and active in his community.
